REHUGO Analysis – Universal Truths

A. Quote and Author

a. “In truth a family is what you make it. It is made strong, not by number of heads counted at the dinner table, but by the rituals you help family members create, by the memories you share, by the commitment of time, caring, and love you show to one another, and by the hopes for the future you have as individuals and as a unit.”
-Marge Kennedy

Marge Kennedy is an author that has written various books and magazines for parents. She also wrote material, which teachers used for education purposes.

b. “Family life is a bit like a runny peach pie - not perfect but who's complaining?”
-Robert Brault

Robert Brault is an writer that contributed to magazines and newspapers in the United States. Brault is known for the various quotes he as written.

B. Meaning

a. Kennedy first defines how a family is stable and strong as one unit, but also independently. She presents the amount of quality time spent with family and appreciation towards one another strengthens a family’s bond. The love and caring for one another in a family develops a strong relationship therefore strengthening the family bonds in entirety.

b. Brault uses a simile to describe a family’s life as a runny peach pie that is not perfect. The author means the life of a family is good but it has flaws that create imperfections. Although there may be certain aspects of the “pie” or a family’s life that form flaws, each family member and the family itself is satisfied as a whole.

C. Relevance

a. In the quote from Kennedy, the time, effort, and love a person puts into their family establishes a family that is strong and close-knit. The relationship between family members increase as memories and love builds for one another. If families do not appreciate or want quality time with each other, families will not have stability and being all together as one unit.

b. The relevance of this quote written by Brault is noting that the life of a family is great no matter the flaws it entails. In today’s society, families go through tough experiences that cause issues in life, but at the end of the day a family’s life is wonderful because each member has one another and share their unconditional love.
