REHUGO Analysis — Quote/Universal Truths

A. “Whatever they grow up to be, they are still our children, and the one most important of all the things we can give to them is unconditional love. Not a love that depends on anything at all except that they are our children.” - Rosaleen Dickinson.

“The family is a haven in a heartless world.” - Christopher Lasch.

B. a) In the first quote, Rosaleen Dickinson is trying to explain that no matter what, children should be loved because they are our children. It shouldn’t matter if that child grows up to be successful or unsuccessful. Either way, they deserve to be loved.

b) In the second quote, Christopher Lasch believes that family should be the one place that someone should feel safe in. A family should be the rock, the support that someone should have to give them that security that they might never get from the outside world.

C. a) In today’s society, many families are disappointed when their children do not turn out to be perfect. For example, many people grow up to be unsuccessful and their families want nothing to do with them since they can’t provide for anyone. Some people also grow up being different and their families, who don’t understand, don’t support them. However, this quote says that families should love their children, no matter what.

b) Society in general tends to be very judging and unforgiving. Even from a young age, children are exposed to bullying and seeing someone singled out for being different. Family should be a place where someone can be themselves and not be ridiculed for it. Many teenagers are bullied and are kicked out of their homes for being different. The families of these teenagers need to be a place where they can feel safe.
