REHUGO #3 – Universal Truths Analysis

A. “The voice of parents is the voice of gods, for to their children they are heaven's lieutenants.”- William Shakespeare “Wherever I look, I see signs of the commandment to honor one's parents and nowhere of a commandment that calls for the respect of a child.” – Alice Miller

B. a.) The first quote said by William Shakespeare is saying that parents make the children who they grow up to be. When children are young, they idolize the parents. They believe in everything their parents say and do.

b.) Alice Miller’s quote is saying that it’s a known fact to honor your parents. In almost every religion it states that one must always respect the parents. Miller is saying that there is no rule in which to honor and respect the children. She is implying that children need as much respect as they give to the parents.

C. a.) Today’s society consists of both parents working jobs, kids in daycare or having sitters. Parents barely see there children and when they do, the kids are playing computer or video games, or watching hours of television. It’s hard now for parents to influence their children when they are competing with media. Though not all families are like that, some limit television time.

b.) Society is filled with kids watching television and playing on the computer. Kids are pressured every day by their parents about grades, curfew and school. The kids respond by rebelling and pushing away their parents. In return the parents turn stricter and soon enough there is no respect, both for parents and children.

  1. Not bad, though I feel you repeat yourself several times at the end with watching tv and media.
