REHUGO Analysis-Family/Community: Current Event

A.       Articles- writers Tom DeWeese and Mike Rose

B.        In the article Grand Visions and Possible Lives the author argues that America's public education is strong and is not failing. Other the other hand in the article American Education Fails Because It Isn't Education the author argues that public schools are failing because American education is now seventh in the world, and our 'professionals' the NEA only cares about money and political agenda-not education.

C.        -In the article Grand Visions and Possible Lives the author uses ethos by telling the audience about his evaluation from a chemistry class in Pasadena, California to back up his argument. He explains how the students being interactive and the teacher going student to student, and the class being an hands on class; it was a successful class. The author also gives the details of the classrooms; how children interact with each other, observe labs, talk about daily events, ect. The author is trying to prove that public schools are benefiting the children because there's more experience and more perspectives' in a public school than a private or home schooling.                                                                                                                           –In the article American Education Fails Because It Isn't Education, Rose uses comparison and contrast between the other nations to prove his argument that Americas public schools are failing, 'American students have fallen further behind, placing 19th out of 21 nations in math, 16th in science and dead last in physics.' The author uses a lot of ethos to create his credibility; refers to the book The Deliberate Dumbing Down of America, by Charlotte Thomson Iserbyt, Professor Benjamin Bloom, Dr. M. Donald Thomas'  article in The Effective School Report entitled "Education 90: A Framework for the Future.", President Bush, ect. The author compares how the NEA had told the people they were going to make our children's education better, but really it's just a way to get more money.

D.       Both authors you comparison and contrast, to get their arguments across. In both cases it works really well because, it allows you to see the good and the bad of bpth sides of the argument. The authors also use exemplification well throughout their arguments. This allows the reader to see what the author is trying to prove- how their argument is justifiable. Exemplification allowed the reader to see how the school system works, and how it could be failing or not.

E.        While there are many schools that have students do fairly well, some of the public schools in America have dropped heavily. It is proven by statistics, America is no longer the number one performing nation in math or science, doesn't that prove that the public school system is failing? Are people overlooking education? Is the government, really doing everything they can to help students get a better education and higher passing rates?

  1. He explains how the students being interactive and the teacher going student to student, and the class being an hands on class; it was a successful class - how would you fix this sentence?

Both authors you comparison and contrast, to get their arguments across. In both cases it works really well because, it allows you to see the good and the bad of bpth sides of the argument. - do you really tell me anything in these two sentences?
