REHUGO Analysis - Visual: Cartoon

A. Cartoon Attatched - Artist: Dana Summers

B. Artist Dana Summers comments on how the constantly rising gas prices are beginning to become too overwhelming for typical U.S. drivers. Over the past few years, the steadily rising gas prices were simply nothing to fret about, because people needed the gas to get from point A to point B. But now, the prices have risen so much, that they have become too much for many American drivers

C. Summers over exaggerates the sizes of the gas pump compared to the little red car which symbolizes U.S. drivers. By having the gas pump being toppled over by a row of dominoes, the artist suggests that the rising gas prices continued to rise, toppling over until they were too much for most drivers. Summers also foreshadows that Americans will be surprised and overwhelmed if the issue is not addressed through the driver’s facial expression in the little red car.

D. The artist implies that gas prices are much like a stack of dominoes, rising over time and knocking over the next until it gets to the point where the prices are too high and the U.S. is overwhelmed. The slowly rising gas prices have never been top news because most people do not realize that soon the prices will become too much for American drivers to afford.
